The use of effects to influence judgements of a computer generated vehicle accident:

Summary: Legal decision making is complex and it is often the case that experts and complex evidence are introduced in court. Computer Generated Animation (CGA) has been used as demonstative evidence in order to simplify juror comprehension. However, there is concern that these animations could impact upon judgements depending upon the style they are presented - at present there are few formal guidelines for the format they are created in.
This study presented animations in a 'scientific' style in order to give more credibility to the presentation. There were no significant differences recorded between this format and a normal rendered animation. It is suggested that potential jurors may not be easily influenced by peripheral information.
